New Structure, Old Structures

Hey, lovely people! I know I haven't been around much lately, or at all, but I hope life is good and that things are going well. Not gonna lie, edits are tough, but I think stepping back and getting some perspective has helped me figure out a way to go that will be beneficial to the story. Also, life itself has offered some additional insight into my character's motivations. It's pretty interesting, actually. However, I know most of this means absolutely nothing to most of you, especially when I've written it all in gibberish! But thanks for reading anyway.

Here's something I enjoy doing with my time away from writing. I love old houses and caught on to this fellow's massive amount of video footage of abandoned homes. Kind of sad that some of them were torn down after he filmed, but isn't it interesting to get a first-hand glimpse of these forgotten structures? It makes you wonder what happened to make the former owners leave so suddenly, that there's still possessions hanging around. I would love, love, love to go through some of these houses myself. For now, though, I am content to armchair it on YouTube.

Take care, awesome people. Hope you're having a wonderful July!

  1. Thanks for the update! I found the old house intriguing --fascinating, in fact. Old outside doors with brand new hardware --and evidence of a recent break-in with glass pane replaced with a cheerios carton. Someone's installed new granite counter tops in the kitchen and stainless steel basin. There is a plant hanging at the kitchen window that still has green in it. Dining room unpainted but nearly dustless --signs of recent care. Upstairs puzzled me. There's a bedroom with modern action toon decals on the wall --a boys room. But adjacent bedroom, altho in good condition, suggested decay --at 5:01 m. into clip we see a swarm of flies were spawned in that room and their remains line the window sill. That can only mean one thing.

There are new appliances in the basement, and modern Romex cable retrofitted thru the floor joists. Still, no one home, but a basketball backboard and hoop --at 10:27-28 in clip-- mounted on an outbuilding. House was last inhabited by an older adult and a young ward --and, it would seem, is being gradually restored. It's a beautiful house and wants a family.

Thanks, Amy, for this --probably erroneous-- exercise in deductive reasoning.

  2. It does look restored inside, almost too much. I love the outside though, very gothic and I love it! However, that horrible toilet and the flies and that basement . . . creepy!

  3. It all looked quite clean; those floors are shinier than most of mine. I presume it was just waiting for a new owner; not a bad house at all. Needs some re-designing, and a bag for the flies! I rather liked the basement.....spooky.

    1. It's almost like someone wanted a new house in an old house. The outside is so fantastic. Can't agree with the basement. Yeah, I'd go down there to look at the furnace if necessary, but that's about it!

  4. Hi Amy, I agree with Cro, it does look as if someone has tried to create a new house inside an old one. The emptiness and the hollow footsteps make it feel a bit eery. Wonder who lived there and why they up and left? Have a good summer xx

    1. Maybe it was haunted and the previous owners tried to modernize things to drive out the ghost, haha. Looks like the ghost won : ) Okay, I'm weird for liking that, but it tickles me. Have yourself a great summer too, Miss Molly!

  5. Lots of history, for sure. Why did the owners leave, is a good question? Why is the house empty still?
I love old houses. Would like to do exactly what you did!

    1. I wonder why they left as well, perhaps bank foreclosure or some land issue that couldn't be dealt with. Sad.
