Summer Days

I'm still here. That's about as much as I can think of to say. I wish I was a big talker, but I'm not. Sometimes I get real quiet; I reserve that right, but do not condone it. : )~

Anyway, last week I had a ton of migraines, really bad ones and I am finally ready to go see a doctor. But I don't want to talk about that too much. But, yeah, migraines for five days straight is pretty much exhausting. It might be the heat. Temperatures rose to 107 this past week, and there is no way to feel good in that. Everything is very, very dry right now, with no rain in sight. A hike in some nearby nature trails revealed evaporating creek beds, spider webs spread low across the crispy vegetation, and deer everywhere. Beautiful, soft, sweet-eyed deer. They weren't afraid of humans, and I don't know why they hung out so close to the trail. Perhaps because of the heat, so many people have abandoned the park and the deer have lost their fear of the crowds. Anyway, for them, It pray for rain.

Here are a few pictures from Bern, Kansas, Fourth of July. And back home stuff too.

  1. Gorgeous fireworks....I love the shots of the kids so starry eyed. And nothing beats cat pictures in my book.

    1. The last shot is a wedding in the hall. Julia is always setting up some sort of royal event with flowers and big runways lined with stones, etc.

  2. Those last two pictures are great; just how cats should be. Hope your doc' can sort you out. Migraine can be so debilitating. Best wishes, xx

    1. I like the one of Grape holding Opera, too. Sweet photo of the two of them.

  3. Dear Amy, I wonder if the deer were hoping for water. One blog I read today showed koalas in Australia who came to people on the road and wanted water. Peace.

    1. I wonder too. Unfortunately, I had none to give. I was little afraid a buck would come jumping out.

  4. Yeah, it's above one hundred degrees here in Utah, too. News says we're braking dozens upon dozens of records around the country. Looks like you had a good holiday, though! :D

    1. Sorry to hear that! It's actually cooler here in Kansas today, but still no accumulative rainfall.

  5. Love the pictures. Looks like the kittens are becoming cats. Did you keep them all?

I suffer from migraines also and there is little I can take for relief because of other health problems. I hope they gave you something to help you through this.

    Your children are so beautiful!

    1. No, didn't keep them all. Thank goodness. It was hard to part with any, but it had to be done. My nephew's friend now has a kitty all for his own. That makes me truly happy.

  6. It's so good to hear from you again! I'm sorry you suffering from migraines and the terrible heat. It's been many years since I've had to suffer through a terrible summer -- it was my last summer before I came to England to live. I was pregnant and the temperature was around 100 for days and days. I left for England on the last day of August -- the heat was near 100 if not above. When I arrived in England it was 70 -- probably a little cooler in the early morning -- it felt like paradise. Hope you feel better soon.

    1. I've always wanted to visit England. Besides the lovely people I know that live there, I'd go to see the rolling hillsides and beautiful climate. I'd go to Liverpool first, of course, then to London to see Abbey Road, and anywhere and everywhere else. Someday . . . I hope.

  7. Paradoxically, your very hot summer seems to be the reason why we aren't having any summer at all in England. It seems to rain all the time and temperatures are often no higher than they were this February. Everyone is getting sick to death with it, with lots of outdoor events cancelled. In some places, homes are being flooded. We haven't dared to visit our son's place in Wales. He's away at the moment and I'm worried that when he gets back the house might be waterlogged.

It doesn't make your problems any less real, but don't pray too hard for rain. We had a dry winter and the water companies said we needed more rain and yesterday some places got a month's worth in one day!

Sorry about the migraine. I'm afraid my response used to feature curling up under a duvet and drinking slowly but steadily. It was surprisingly effective - it didn't often work but it numbed the pain. But then I never had really bad attacks. You have my sympathy. I'm glad you're back online anyway.

    1. I keep hearing about the weather over in the Uk and Europe. It's hard to comprehend, but I do understand that dreadful feeling of always being under a cloud, and the flooding, the mildew, the depression. It isn't fun! Too bad we can't share a little of our weather to help each other out.

Curling up with a duvet--with a good book--sounds lovely. I'm reading The Grapes of Wrath (still, I'm a slow reader) and that might be my plan for tonight!xxxx

  8. Amy your migraines sounded awful. My Julie gets them sometimes too - not nice! Hope you're feeling better now. Your pictures are lovely. The kitties aren't half growing. PS sending you an email x

    1. You're right--the kittens are really growing fast! There's two staying and they love when it's time to eat!

I got your email and will work on those questions tonight. It'll be fun!xxxx

  9. Those are some great and festive pictures. I haven't gone out to see fireworks in years. I can't wait for my little one to be a little older so I have the excuse to go see fireworks again, and go to Disneyland and Legoland, and all the other things I'm supposed to be too old to do.

    1. We have Legoland around here but I haven't been yet. I know the kids are ready to head out there sometime soon.

  10. It sounds like we are all part of the Migraine Legionnaires. They way-lay me in a hard way, esp. in summer.

Love the photos. The profile of the child watching the fireworks--precious.
